Patty Mills had a brilliant post-script to Australia’s historic Olympic basketball bronze medal win, catching up with USA megastar Kevin Durant – his new NBA teammate.
Mills signed a two-year deal with Durant’s Brooklyn Nets – also featuring James Harden and Kyrie Irving – midway through the Games.
Mills scored 42 points as the Boomers sealed bronze, their first-ever Olympic medal; while Durant buried 29 points as the Americans took gold over France.
“Get outta here man, that’s my teammate!” Mills yelled as he spotted Durant after the medal ceremony, muscling his way into the superstar’s video recording.
Durant wrapped his arm around Mills and replied: “Yo! Patty coming back to the BK (Brooklyn), black and white.
“Hey, you was ballin’ – you got 40 tonight!”
Then he yelled out, possibly to USA teammate Jayson Tatum: “There’s gonna be problems for them Boston Celtics this year! I’m telling you.”
Durant, an NBA MVP and dual NBA Finals MVP, gave Australia a painful reminder of his exceptional talent when he torched the Boomers in the semi-finals, ending their hopes of winning gold in Tokyo.
After taking bronze, Mills was adamant that it was just another step on the road to one day winning Olympic gold.
