Xander Schauffele of the United States finished at 18-under holding on to win the gold medal at the Tokyo Olympics.
Schauffele had a final round 67 for a total of 266 to win by a single stroke. It was the first gold medal for the United States since 1900 after the sport returned to Olympics in 2016 after a 112-year absence.
Slovakia’s Rory Sabbatini took the silver medal with a final score of 17-under. A seven-way playoff that includes Rory McIlroy, Paul Casey, and Japan’s Masters champion Hideki Matsuyama is currently underway to determine the winner of the the bronze medal.
Canadians Corey Conners finished 13th shooting 13-under while Mackenzie Hughes shot 3-under to finish in 50th.
Sabbatini made a final push for gold finishing with an Olympic-record final round of 61 with an eagle, 10 birdies and two bogeys on the day.
