Video: Timo Werner breaks goal drought, but a former Chelsea talent steals the show for Germany

Germany’s opening goal during the country’s meeting with Liechtenstein this evening was not only netted by a Chelsea star, but also created by a former Blues talent.

Werner on target

Die Mannschaft are currently locked in action, in the nation’s latest World Cup qualifier.

The clash of course marks something of a momentous one for Germany, in the form of their first without long-time manager Jogi Low on the sideline.

Instead, ex-Bayern Munich boss Hansi Flick has taken up the reins, ahead of a potentially prosperous new era.

And, as things stand at Kybun Park in Liechtenstein, Die Mannschaft are well on their way towards a first 3-point haul under the the guidance of their new head coach.

This comes with a dominant opening hour having culminated in a 1-goal advantage for the visitors.

Shortly before the interval, a scintillating break down the left saw Jamal Musiala slip Timo Werner inside the Liechtenstein box, with the oft-maligned Chelsea hitman having made no mistake in taking the ball in his stride before slotting home a pinpoint finish.

His strike, in turn, brought to an end a stretch of ten appearances without a goal for Werner:

Musiala magic

Despite his goal, in truth, having been a sight to behold, however, it is not Werner’s name which has since grabbed the headlines amid Germany’s latest efforts on the competitive stage.

Instead, across the lips of viewers of the clash in St. Gallen has been the name of another – the aforementioned Jamal Musiala.

Gifted attacking midfielder Musiala is actually a product of the youth system of Premier League giants Chelsea.

After spending eight years on the books of the Blues, however, the prodigious talent came to the decision to seek pastures new in the summer of 2019, swapping London for Munich at the age of just 16.

And to say that Chelsea’s loss has since proven the gain of both Bayern and Germany would be putting it lightly.

Handed his latest start for Die Mannschaft at the age of just 18, Musiala’s assist this evening showcased all of the remarkable talents possessed by the midfielder/winger.

Pace, directness, touch, ability in the one-on-one, vision, and crucially the final ball to top it off, Musiala has long announced himself to regular viewers of German football.

Now, it is time for those across the continent to stand up and take notice…
