The Dynafit Free line rises from the ashes of a factory fire

Photos: Fred Marmsater

Flames engulfed much of Fischer’s legendary Mukachevo ski factory in Ukraine last year. Europe’s largest ski factory produced planks for Dynafit, Fischer, and Scott and its loss presented a huge problem for the heritage brands. Remarkably, Dynafit sped up the production of its new Free line, pushing it out one year ahead of schedule.

The new Dynafit Free line will replace the Beast series as a totally redesigned freeride ski. Dynafit spent the summer testing it on Mount Hood with athletes Riis Wilbrecht and Sawyer Thomas. The result is a ski that’s more versatile and playful than the Beast series, yet still ready to push distances uphill.

This is… different for Dynafit.

Dynafit took into account a heap of customer feedback from the Beast series when designing their new Free line. As a result, the Free 97 and 107 got a tighter, more modern sidecut and a rounder flex pattern which will ensure lively, snappy turns and the ability to execute wild nose butters, even with pin bindings. Full sized ABS sidewalls will increase stability, and edge grip, and durability. At 1630 grams, it’s evident that Dynafit designed the Free 107 as a versatile backcountry powder tool that will easily climb to your secret stash. A stiffened tail flex should provide for stable landings and a strong platform in the steeps as well.

This lineup is so new that FREESKIER hasn’t had a chance to hop on these new sticks just yet, but stay tuned for a full review when we do. Ski shops that placed orders for the Beast series will receive the Free series with matching pre-cut skins.

Free 97 Dimensions: 128-98-118mm in a 184cm length with a 20 meter sidecut radius and weighing 1540 grams.

Free 107 Dimensions: 132-107-124mm in a 181cm length with a 21.5 meter sidecut radius and weighing 1630 grams.
