Dolphins and Bears highlights and updates

This section will be updated live during the Dolphins vs. Bears game and will cover highlights, all scoring plays, and results.

2:20 PM ET: After driving the ball downfield with some short passes, Brissett takes a deep shot to the end zone to RB Salvon Ahmed for a 23-yard TOUCHDOWN.

2:14 PM ET: After an incomplete pass attempt to TE Jesse James, Fields scrambles for 6 yards and fumbles the ball out of bounds. Rough start so far for Fields, but he hasn’t had very much help around him. The Bears have now had five straight three and outs.

2:00 PM ET: After an All-Pro season last year, kicker Jason Sanders continues to be money with a 35-yard field goal for Miami.

1:52 PM ET: Tua’s day has seemingly come to an end as Jacoby Brissett has come in at QB. Tua finished 8/11 with 99 yards and an interception. After replacing Tua, Brissett’s second play of the game is an 18-yard scramble. His third is an 8-yard rush.

1:50 PM ET: Miami continues to find success on punt returns with Jakeem Grant taking it back for 34 yards.

1:45 PM ET: After the interception, rookie QB Justin Fields is getting his first drive of the game. After a rush and two false start penalties, Fields’ first drive ends with a three and out.

1:40 PM ET: Tua took a shot at the end zone for TE Adam Shaheen. Bears safety DeAndre Houston-Carson INTERCEPTED the ball.

1:30 PM ET: After a quick drive from Chicago, Miami and Tagovailoa take the field again. Tua continues to show his rapport with his TEs, completing another pass to Gesicki. He also completes a 14-yard pass to Hollins in a very tight window between two Bears defensemen. However, Miami’s run game continues to struggle. Malcolm Brown finishes the first quarter with 7 attempts for 5 yards.

1:17 PM ET: With a great pocket around him and time to set up, Tagovailoa connects on a 50-yard pass to TE Mike Gesicki. Brown then had two attempts at the end zone but couldn’t get past the Bears’ defensive line. Miami settles for a 21-yard field goal.

1:13 PM ET: Miami Dolphin fans got to see their first look at WR Jaylen Waddle. Waddle received Miami’s second punt and ran for 22 yards. His speed and agility are both on display early.

1:10 PM ET: During Chicago’s first drive, the Bears ran the ball twice. RB David Montgomery got the first snap and walked off the field shaken up. The drive ended with a three and out.

1:06 PM ET: Miami starts with the ball, with Tua Tagovailoa as the starter. Newly acquired RB Malcolm Brown starts with a short two-yard gain. The Dolphins finished their first drive going three and out.

What can we expect to see Saturday afternoon?

The Miami Dolphins and Chicago Bears are two teams that feel like they are on the cusp of greatness. Miami is coming into the preseason having just missed the playoffs last year, and they are in a great position to compete in an AFC East landscape that is nowhere near as top-heavy as before.

On the other hand, Chicago made the playoffs last year by the skin of their teeth with an 8-8 record. They were then easily defeated by the New Orleans Saints 21-9 in the Wild Card Round. However, this year, the team has new hope after moving on from Mitchell Trubisky and bringing in Andy Dalton. They also drafted their next franchise QB in Justin Fields.

Offensively, both teams have made significant changes. The Dolphins drafted a new WR1 option for Tua Tagovailoa in Jaylen Waddle. Waddle has looked impressive in training camp, and we should hopefully see some rapport between him and his QB during this game. Additionally, the team brought in Will Fuller to give them a legitimate deep threat. He is currently sidelined with an injury, so we will not see him in this game.

Chicago traded away wide receiver Anthony Miller to the Houston Texans this offseason and will now be relying on a combination of Allen Robinson, Darnell Mooney, and Marquise Goodwin. Mooney has been someone that has shown signs of becoming a reliable WR2 during training camp.
