The 2022 Amplid Aloha Vibes Snowboard Review

Board: Amplid Aloha Vibes

Size: 154

Camber Option: Cruise Camber. A mellow directional camrocker.

Bindings: Rome Black Label

Stance: 21.5 Wide 15 Negative 12 Goofy

Boots: K2 Thraxis Size 10

My Weight: 200lbs

Resort: Copper Mountain

Conditions: Overcast skies, some snow falling, average temps, times of high winds, fresh snow on the ground, left over pow in the trees, some chunder in spots, and firm fast groomers in spots.

Flex: This board has a playful freeride flex to it making it somewhat around a middle of the road overall feel. The nose is obviously softer than the tail due in part to this. But the big thing to note is that the torsional flex feels slightly setback compared to the camber profile. This changes the dynamic of how it rides a bit.

Stability: With the width of this board that’s where a vast majority of its stability comes from. The additional stability comes from that mellow camber section through the inserts. The nose does get some flap in it at speeds and you slightly feel it under the front foot. The torsional flex is abundant and in rutted out terrain you can feel those more body jarring hits.

Ollies/Pop: With such a wide platform to pop off of you never really have to worry about setting this thing up to snap. The mellow camber is easy to engage and takes next to no effort.

Butterability: The nose is the ideal spot to butter on obviously. Even then it takes a bit more to get your weight out over it to engage. You’ll notice that while you can butter on it, that steeper terrain with a little fresh snow is more ideal than on a cat track. The tail can do high speed wheelies if you want it to.

Carving: While the width is abundant this thing can carve. It’s not going to be the gnarliest trench layer out there but it’s going to have more than enough to let you get it on edge and feel locked in. There’s a quicker initiation off the nose due to the rocker then it slows down and becomes a bit more mellow from the front insert back. When you do flex this board from the center and really push into it you can get a more aggressive slingshot effect through the carve but there’s other decks that are better at this. All in all it’s good for short quick carves and medium mellow carves. It can handle the occasional aggressive carve but its not a stand out by any means.

Rider in Mind: Resort ripping powder/tree guy.

Personal Thoughts: There’s something about getting on an Amplid that you just notice in the first lap. They have a feel that’s unique to them and it’s comforting. You know right away you’re on a solid deck and this is no exception. It felt like I had ridden this board forever. It’s wider that’s for sure and with a size 10 I wasn’t anywhere near the edges of it so booting out was a non-issue. This helped it with powder float. It’s nimble in the trees for its width and you just know you can slash anything in sight. That added width gives it more stability in uneven terrain as well.

Comparable Boards: Korua Dart, Salomon Sick Stick, Nidecker Mosquito

Recommended Bindings: Ride A-8, Now Select, Rome Katana
