Romelu Lukaku may not be most fans first choice, but he is a world class choice – Talk Chelsea

Like most of us, I was most keen on Chelsea signing Erling Haaland this summer as their first choice big-name striker that they want to bring in.

However, as with this saga all the way through, the pendulum is swinging between him being most likely, to now Romelu Lukaku being most likely, and that is the nature of this transfer beast and exactly how these things work.

I understand that Chelsea have been negotiating for both potential deals for weeks/months, and as of right now, Lukaku is seen as more gettable and more likely. I’m told it is advancing.

I’m also told that Thomas Tuchel doesn’t want to settle with a backup choice, he wants to improve the squad only with players he feels will do that and not settle for a different option, this is why you have been hearing things like ‘Tuchel is happy to go into the new season with what he has got.’

Whilst that is true to a certain extent, he absolutely wants to add a world class striker, and as much as he rates Haaland, he rates Lukaku just as much and sees him as a player who will come in and massively improve this squad.

Who are we to disagree with that? Whilst I wanted Haaland, I’d be more than content signing Lukaku – He is a world class goal scoring striker who brings everything we need to that striker role.

Am I worried about spending £100m on a 28-year old? Absolutely not, we still get a good 5-years out of him at his best, and as for re-sell value.. You really think Chelsea need to be worrying about that with the amount of players they seem to be selling at a profit right now coming through the youth system?

Also, it isn’t my money. We need a top striker to compete, Lukaku is that, and you have to pay money to sign the best.

Not only does Lukaku bring quality and goals, he also brings proven experience, leadership, and the type of attitude that Tuchel LOVES. He has unfinished business at this club and a point to prove, he will be like a wild animal unleashed back at Stamford Bridge, that I am sure of.
