Professional wrestlers usually make great action movie heroes. They have a knack for acting – American wrestling focuses a lot on the “show” part of the performance – and they have the constitution to impress on the big screen. Not all athletes have the same combination of features and talents to be able to perform in movies.
Soccer players, even if they receive stellar reviews in soccer analysis, would have no chance on the big screen because they lack both the body and the talent – they can fake injuries pretty convincingly, but couldn’t interpret even a grunt in a movie. But how about looking at things the other way around? We’ve seen many professional wrestlers turn into successful actors – but which professional actors would fit right in with professional wrestlers?
Tom Hardy
While he is only 5 feet 9 and weighs just 165 pounds, English actor Tom Hardy is an impressive presence on the screen – and he would be impressive in the ring as well. A former model and current actor, Hardy played some pretty impressive – and aggressive – roles in his career, including MMA fighter Tommy Riordan in “Warrior” and supervillain Bane in “The Dark Knight Rises”.
His deep, raspy voice and blue-green eyes, not to mention his full lips, would make him a character beloved by the audience – and perhaps a perfect villain in the ring.
Vin Diesel
Vin Diesel, born Mark Sinclair, rose to prominence playing the role of the ruthless killer Richard B. Riddick in the sci-fi horror flick “Pitch Black”. Over the years, he became an action movie staple, playing roles like Xander Cage (XxX), Dominic Toretto (Fast & Furious franchise), and Valiant Comics superhero Bloodshot.
The 54-year-old actor is 5 feet 10 and has over 220 pounds of muscle. His iconic voice is incredibly recognizable (he lent it to beloved characters like Groot and The Iron Giant). And his smile/grin has the potential to freeze the blood in your veins. All these would make him a great choice for professional wrestling.
Jason Momoa
Joseph Jason Namakaeha Momoa is a Hawaiian former model and actor who has made a name for himself in a series of action-packed movies. His athleticism and abilities shone through from his first role in which he had to use his fists – that of Ronon Dex in the SyFy series Stargate Atlantis. Since then, he had many impressive roles – like that of Dothraki leader Khal Drogo in Game of Thrones or that of Aquaman in the Justice League movies. But perhaps his most impressive role as of late is that of Baba Voss in the Apple TV+ original series See where he plays a blind warrior protecting his children who can see.
Momoa never was a professional athlete but he certainly has the constitution of one. Add this to his impressive stature – he is 6 feet 4 and weighs more than 210 pounds – and you have an unmistakable presence in the ring.
