Mauricio Pochettino is under contract as Paris Saint-Germain head coach until 2023, the Ligue 1 club has announced this Friday.
The Argentine and his staff will stay at Parc des Princes for at least two more seasons after the initial agreement was until the end of the 2021-22 campaign.
Pochettino, 49, took over as PSG boss back in January having played for and captained the club between 2001-03.
“I am really very happy for myself and also for my staff,” he said in an official statement. “It is very important for us to feel the confidence of the club and we will give our maximum so that the supporters are proud of PSG.
“That is why we will try and reach our objectives all together as one. Twenty years ago, I was captain of this club and today I am the coach — it is a dream come true.”
Pochettino was unable to lead PSG to the Ligue 1 title ahead of eventual champions Lille OSC, but he did steer the team to Coupe de France and Trophee des Champions success as well as the UEFA Champions League semifinals with wins over Barcelona and previous titleholders Bayern Munich.
“We are delighted that Mauricio has reaffirmed his commitment to the PSG family,” added Chairman and CEO Nasser Al-Khelaifi. “Having also captained the team 20 years ago, he understands the club values, ambition and vision for the future. With Mauricio’s leadership, we are excited and confident about what the future holds.”
Since the end of the 2020-21 season, Pochettino has had Sergio Ramos, Gianluigi Donnarumma and Georginio Wijnaldum added to his squad on free transfers while Achraf Hakimi has also arrived from Inter Milan.
