NBA Free Agent JJ Redick donates $100,000 to feed Louisiana Ida Victims

JJ Redick is opening his checkbook to make a difference helping to feed the south Louisianans, who were affected by the Hurricane Ida storm recently.

The former Pelicans sharpshooter made the announcement this week that he and his wife, Chelsea, were donating $100,000 to the Second Harvest Food Bank.

The Redick’s helped contribute to a Second Harvest Food Bank campaign last April that provided 1.8 million meals that covered the south Louisiana region when the pandemic hit the area hard.

Redick appeared in 31 games with the Pelicans last season. His production tailed off dramatically, in part because he was hampered by a heel injury for much of that stretch.

The 37-year-old Redick has often spoken fondly about his brief time in the Crescent City.

“What really makes New Orleans special is the people,” Redick said in 2020. “Whether it’s fans or people at our kids’ school or anyone in the community. They’ve just been so good to me. They’ve just been so good to my family. There’s just been what I feel like is an instant connection to the soul of the city that we’ve felt. It’s just been an amazing experience. We’ve been so fortunate and grateful to have spent these last six or seven months here. We absolutely love it.”

Redick is an unrestricted free agent and has not yet signed with a new team.
