Here are your Habs Headlines!\x3c/p>\n\x3ch3>Price is Back\x3c/h3>\n\x3cp>When Carey Price spoke to NHL.com on Wednesday, he had not yet returned to the ice since having knee surgery on on July 22nd. That all changed on Thursday morning as Price stepped on the ice in Brossard. The Canadiens top player stretched and skated for about ten minutes before returning to the dressing room.\x3c/p>\n\x3ch3>Day 2 of Rookie Camp\x3c/h3>\n\x3cp>On Thursday, Canadiens prospects hit the ice for the first time in Brossard as the coaching staff from the Laval Rocket put them through drills.\x3c/p>\n\x3ch4>Mattias Norlinder\x3c/h4>\n\x3cp>Most of the media attention was directed at defenceman \x3cstrong>Mattias Norlinder\x3c/strong>, a third-round selection in the 2019 NHL Entry Draft. The 21-year-old is in Montreal with one goal in mind.\x3c/p>\n\x3cp>“That’s what I’m looking for. That’s why I’m here. That’s why all the guys are here. It’s a journey,” said Norlinder. “My focus right now is just to make the team. I’m looking forward to this week and then we’ll see what happens. It’s just fun to be here for the first time.”\x3c/p>\n\x3cp>Norlinder has already been through a challenging training camp a few weeks ago with the Frolunda Indians and has played a full exhibition schedule.\x3c/p>\n\x3cp>“Frölunda is one of the best clubs in Europe. The organization is great. We work really hard. From that city in Gothenburg, we have pretty good standards on a daily basis,” Norlinder told Rocket Sports. “I take that with me, and I’ll keep working hard here.”\x3c/p>\n\x3cp>For the young prospect to make the big club, he will need to adjust to a smaller rink. “This is my first time ever on the small ice. It will probably take some time, but I will give it time,” said Norlinder. “After one practice, I didn’t feel like it was too hard.”\x3c/p>\n\x3ch4>Cam Hillis\x3c/h4>\n\x3cp>Canadiens prospect \x3cstrong>Cam Hillis\x3c/strong> played 18 games for the Laval Rocket in 2020-21 in his first exposure to pro hockey. Hillis was a third-round selection in the 2018 NHL Entry Draft.\x3c/p>\n\x3cp>“I feel like more of a veteran here now, more of a take-charge kind of guy than at previous camps,” said Hillis. “I was a little more hesitant, but now I feel like this is my opportunity to grow here and take a few more steps forward.”\x3c/p>\n\x3cp>“The mindset in itself is just having the attitude to come to the rink, focusing on yourself, and making the team better that one percent each day. That’s kind of the message I learned from a few guys last year, just focusing on getting one percent better each day, and that’s all I can take care of. That adds up over time,” said the 21-year-old. “There’s obviously smaller details within the game that you work on with your coaches, and that’s something I definitely worked on this summer.”\x3c/p>\n\x3cp>“Everyone has their own timelines and my responsibility is just to keep progressing each day here and do my best to prove to them that I’m a little more ready than I was last year,” said Hillis.\x3c/p>\n\x3ch3>Kotkaniemi Lands in NC\x3c/h3>\n\x3cp>Former Canadiens centre \x3cstrong>Jesperi Kotkaneimi \x3c/strong>arrived in Raleigh close to midnight on Wednesday and was on the ice at Wake Competition Center with several Carolina Hurricanes on Thursday morning. “I’m really happy to be here,” Kotkaniemi said.\x3c/p>\n\x3cp>“It was great. Lot of great guys in the room. We had a little game at the end. It was a lot of fun out there. It felt good. It felt really good,” said Kotkaneimi after the skate.\x3c/p>\n\x3cp>On the upcoming season, Kotkaniemi said, “I feel this will be real good for me. I thought I got a little stuck over there (in Montreal), so a new start will be good.”\x3c/p>\n\x3cp>Hurricanes winger \x3cstrong>Teuvo Teravainen\x3c/strong> was also part of the on-ice workout. With respect to his new teammate, “[Kotkaniemi] can see the ice really good and is a smart player. I think he can add a lot. I think he’s a great young player who’s only going to get better, and that’s good for us.”\x3c/p>\n\x3ch3>Ducharme Shares His Views\x3c/h3>\n\x3cp>Canadiens head coach \x3cstrong>Dominique Ducharme\x3c/strong> sat down with La Presse to answer questions. His responses to current issues appear below (translated from French.)\x3c/p>\n\x3cp>\x3cem>On \x3cstrong>Jonathan Drouin\x3c/strong> playing centre..\x3c/em>\x3c/p>\n\x3cp>“For me, Jo’s situation is how he’s going to play. The most important thing is that he feels good physically, mentally. Let him play to his full potential. After that, whether he is on the wing or in the center, it is not a priority for the moment. We know it’s an option.”\x3c/p>\n\x3cp>\x3cem>On the Canadiens playing a full season without a captain..\x3c/em>\x3c/p>\n\x3cp>“\x3cstrong>Jeff Petry\x3c/strong> already had a part-time letter, he was an assistant when we had an injured guy. He is able to take a little more. \x3cstrong>Ben Chiarot, Joel Edmundson\x3c/strong>… that kind of player there. [\x3cstrong>Brendan Gallagher\x3c/strong>]… They watched it go and gave way to Shea, because it’s natural. It is also natural to take a small part of this place. But the influence he had in the team, it does not go away like that.”\x3c/p>\n\x3cp>\x3cem>On \x3cstrong>Alexander Romanov\x3c/strong> playing on the left, his natural side..\x3c/em>\x3c/p>\n\x3cp>“That doesn’t mean he’ll never play right. But we would like him to continue to progress on his natural side. There are a lot of little situations, the way of playing one on one when he’s on the left, he’s a lot more comfortable.”\x3c/p>\n\x3ch3>The Press Zone – Montreal podcast\x3c/h3>\n\x3cp>Current Habs topics were discussed on this week’s episode of the The Press Zone – Montreal. Here are your Habs Headlines!\x3c/p>\n\x3ch3>A Dose of Reality From Waite\x3c/h3>\n\x3cp>Former Canadiens goaltending coach \x3cstrong>Stephane Waite \x3c/strong>spoke to 98.5 Sports saying that with his huge salary demands former Canadiens centre \x3cb>Phillip Danault\x3c/b> “saw himself as much better than he is.”\x3c/p>\n\x3cp>It’s a fascinating comment as earlier this week, Marc Bergevin said this, “Sometimes players, not all of them, but they don’t quite assess their game the right way, or the way they’re really playing. And that causes different perspectives on how the player plays.”\x3c/p>\n\x3cp>Waite went further saying, “If you want to win the Stanley Cup, Phillip (Danault) is your third centre. And you don’t pay a $ 5.5 million to a third liner. That’s way too much. I love the guy, but you have to be realistic.”\x3c/p>\n\x3cp>With respect to a replacement, Waite said that “\x3cstrong>Christian Dvorak\x3c/strong> is better, younger and cheaper than Phillip.” To emphasize his point, Waite said, “Dvorak is not replacing ‘KK’, he’s replacing Phillip.”\x3c/p>\n\x3cp>Waite said that \x3cstrong>Jesperi Kotkaniemi\x3c/strong> is still growing physically and mentally. “‘KK’ is still an old teenager,” Waite said. “His body is not fully developed. When he reaches a certain physical and psychological maturity, look out! No doubt he will become a complete player!”\x3c/p>\n\x3cp>In Waite’s opinion, for Kotkaniemi, the problem “is not talent, it is maturity. One day, he will become a very good player.”\x3c/p>\n\x3ch3>Limited Home Tickets\x3c/h3>\n\x3cp>The Montreal Canadiens have advised season ticket holders that the Bell Centre will be limited to 7,500 fans to start the regular season, well short of the 21,302 capacity. So, due to these constraints, the team  “unfortunately can’t assign tickets to all of our season ticket holders for every game.”\x3c/p>\n\x3cp>Tickets will be divided into monthly game packages for season ticket holders who wish to attend games. Season ticket holders have until September 13th to indicate their interest.\x3c/p>\n\x3cp>As we reported on August 25th, all spectators 13-years-of-age and older must present proof of being fully vaccinated via the Quebec government’s VaxiCode passport.\x3c/p>\n\x3ch3>Drouin Will Speak\x3c/h3>\n\x3cp>Canadiens forward \x3cstrong>Jonathan Drouin\x3c/strong> has avoided media questions in his recent public appearances. RDS announced that Drouin will finally sit down to do one-one-one interview with Chantal Macabee on September 20th.\x3c/p>\n\x3cp>Drouin has not yet explained his absence after taking an indefinite leave from the Canadiens on April 28th missing 12 regular season games and 22 playoff matches. The 26-year-old winger had been demoted to the fourth line after struggling all season with just two goals in 44 games in 2020-21.\x3c/p>\n\x3ch3>Prospect Update\x3c/h3>\n\x3cp>In the defenseman’s first career game in the KHL, Canadiens prospect \x3cstrong>Otto Leskinen\x3c/strong> recorded two assists for Jokerit helping his team beat Kunlun Red Star 6-5.\x3c/p>\n\x3cp>In VHL action, Canadiens prospect \x3cstrong>Dmitri Kostenko\x3c/strong> scored the game winner on teh power-play as Khimik Voskresensk beat CSK VVS Samara.\x3c/p>\n\x3cblockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n\x3cp lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Dmitri Kostenko scores on the power play.\x3ca href=\"https://twitter.com/hashtag/GoHabsGo?src=hash&ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\">#GoHabsGo\x3c/a> | \x3cimg src=\"//mtdata.ru/u1/photo65F3/20380302119-0/original.png#20380302119\" alt=\" \" style=\"height: 1em; max-height: 1em;\" />\x3ca href=\"https://twitter.com/hashtag/VHL?src=hash&ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\">#VHL\x3c/a> \x3ca href=\"https://t.co/vopUYJGnv8\" target=\"_blank\">pic.twitter.com/vopUYJGnv8\x3c/a>\x3c/p>\n\x3cp>— Dylan Griffing (@GriffingDylan) \x3ca href=\"https://twitter.com/GriffingDylan/status/1435997433876598791?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\">September 9, 2021\x3c/a>\x3c/p>\n\x3c/blockquote>\n\x3ch3>Lions on TVA\x3c/h3>\n\x3cp>The Trois-Rivieres Lions, the Canadiens ECHL affiliate, announced major sponsorship agreements with Videotron and TVA Sports on Thursday.\x3c/p>\n\x3cp>The brand new home arena in Trois-Rivieres will now be known as the Videotron Coliseum. The first broadcast will be for the Lions home opener on October 21st against the Newfoundland Growlers.\x3c/p>\n\x3ch3>Backes Retires as a Blue\x3c/h3>\n\x3cp>Veteran forward \x3cstrong>David Backes\x3c/strong> signed a one-day contract with the St. Louis Blues and subsequently retired from the NHL.\x3c/p>\n\x3cp>“I felt like the game was kind of done with me and truthfully, I felt like I was mostly done with the game as well,” Backes said. “So I think it felt right with the ending we were able to have. … the script seems too good to be true of how it ended, and now the Blues being interested in a one-day contract so I could come back there and end this where it all began.”\x3c/p>\n\x3cp>The 37-year-old forward was a second round pick (62 overall) in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft by St. Louis.
